Splendor

You are a Renaissance gem merchant buying mines, ships and shops with poker-style chips. Cards carry prestige points, and once someone reaches 15 the round finishes and the highest total wins. A turn is one action. Take three chips of different colours, or two of one colour if the stack is tall enough. Or buy a card from the rows with chips. Or reserve a card and take a gold chip that works as any colour. Every card you own gives a permanent discount, so cards get cheaper as you go, and the nobles above the rows visit whoever collects the right set first. It is one of the first games we teach to people who think they do not like board games. Two players make it a tight race, four a scramble for the same cards, and either way it is over in half an hour.
