Zen Garden

You are an architect laying out the Emperor's garden, tile by tile, in a grid in front of you. Paths, ponds, trees and statues each score differently depending on which preference boards are in play. When the tile supply runs out, the garden that best matches the Emperor's tastes wins. A round is quick. Each person in turn picks a single tile off the display, pays what it costs, and sets it beside a tile already in their garden. Once everyone has taken one, the display is topped up. The choice is usually between the tile you want and the one you cannot leave for an opponent. Five preference boards are in the box and only some are used each game, so the goals change every evening. It sits alongside Azul and Kingdomino on our Family shelf, finishes in about forty minutes, and suits a couple or a family.
