Mazescape: Ariadne

This is a solo maze played on a large folded map. You place the small pointer on the compass rose and trace the white paths without ever lifting it, unfolding and refolding panels of the map to open new corridors and close old ones. Passing under bridges and up ladders, you hunt for the exit symbol that lets you escape, and once you are out you can go back for the treasures hidden along the way. The box holds seven maps set in the Crete of legend, ending in a confrontation with the minotaur, and each one is a self-contained puzzle you can finish in one sitting. There is nothing to set up and nothing to learn beyond the folding rule, so it lives well in a bag or a car. Pick it up for a quiet hour alone at the café, or for a child of eight who likes puzzle books and wants something with more to hold.
