Legends of Andor

You are a hero defending the kingdom of Andor through a series of legends: rescue someone, find something, stop a creature reaching the castle. A narrator marker advances whenever a creature is slain or time passes, and each step draws the next legend card. You win by finishing the task before the narrator reaches the end. Every day you spend hours moving your hero across the map, fighting monsters with dice and picking up gold. At nightfall every creature still on the board steps toward the castle; too many inside and the legend is lost. Killing monsters advances the narrator too, so grinding is the wrong instinct. The first legend teaches the rules as you play, making it a good first campaign game for a family. It is medium weight, an hour and a half a legend, and suits anyone who wants fantasy adventure without dungeon-crawler setup.
