Ghost Blitz

You grab one of five wooden objects before anyone else; the trick is working out which. In the middle sit a ghost in white, a bottle in green, a mouse in grey, a book in blue and a chair in red. Each card shows two of them, one or both in the wrong colours. If one object on the card is in its correct colour, grab that object. If neither is, grab the one object whose shape and colour appear nowhere on the card. Grab right and you keep the card; grab wrong and you hand one back. Most cards when the deck ends wins. The second rule is what makes grown-ups hesitate and eight-year-olds win, and it is a good deal harder than Spot It. We use it as a twenty-minute wake-up before a family game, and it scales happily to eight around one small pile of pieces.
