Abandon Planet

A meteor is coming and nobody leaves the planet alone. You need a partner, and you must each gather enough resources to launch your rocket, then survive one more round unrobbed and unhit. Everyone could win if everyone cooperated. They will not. Each round everyone secretly picks a direction for their rocket, all moves are revealed at once, and you take turns picking up resources from the map or stealing them from a neighbour. Then a meteor strikes, wrecking part of the map and any rockets caught there. One player knows in advance where it will land: warn a friend, mislead a rival, or trade the secret for supplies. A negotiation game with enough resource management to give promises weight. Best with eight, closer to an hour than the box suggests, and it suits a game night group who liked Avalon and want the treachery out in the open.
