Poetry for Neanderthals

Your team has to guess the word or phrase on the card, and you can only describe it using words of one syllable. "Cat" is fine. "Animal" gets you hit on the head with the inflatable No Stick by someone on the other team, and your side loses a point. You get one sand timer to clear as many cards as you can, one point for the short word and three for the full phrase, then the deck passes over. Everyone slips up, which is what people are laughing at, and the game works in English at any level since a big vocabulary is a liability. It is a fifteen-minute game for two teams of any size, and we reach for it at corporate sessions and big family gatherings; think Codenames, but far louder. Two players is possible but thin; from six up it comes into its own.
