Splendor Duel

You lead a jeweller's guild against a single rival, taking gem tokens from a shared board to buy cards that give permanent discounts and prestige. Three ways to win, and the first reached ends the game: 20 prestige in total, 10 in a single colour, or 10 crowns across your cards. Tokens sit on a spiral grid; on your turn you take up to three in a straight unbroken line, buy a card, or refill the board. Pearls are scarce. Privilege scrolls, gained when your opponent does something greedy, let you grab an extra gem outside your turn. It keeps the feel of Splendor but is tighter, meaner and two-only, so it is the one for a couple to buy rather than the original. Half an hour, a ten-minute teach if you know Splendor, and enough interaction that you cannot ignore what your rival is collecting.
